I-70 at Eagle
Project Background
Eagle, Colorado is a growing mountain community located on the I-70 corridor between Vail and Glenwood Springs. A large increase in population over the past several years has created traffic flow issues, especially during rush hours. Additionally, the nearby Brush Creek Bridge, directly west of Eagle on US 6, has sustained increased use but is functionally and structurally obsolete. Both improvement projects are in the planning phases, and CDOT wants to keep the public aware of the status of each project. Both projects will help Eagle County have a more efficient transportation system, which will support economic and job growth.
I-70 Eagle Interchange
The goal of this project is to effectively improve safety and mobility at the Eagle interchange. Work will upgrade the I-70 Eagle interchange and portions of Eby Creek Road by constructing roundabouts at ramp intersections and a pedestrian bridge over I-70. The project is scheduled from July 2013 through fall of 2014.
Flatiron Construction Corp. of Firestone, Colorado, is the contractor for this $10 million project, which is funded by CDOT, the Town of Eagle and Colorado FASTER.
Brush Creek Bridge
This project will be located on US 6 immediately west of Eagle between mile markers 148 and 149. The existing bridge will be removed and replaced with a new bridge. Additionally, a detour will be provided adjacent to the project throughout construction. CDOT is currently in preliminary design phases for this project. Throughout the planning and execution phases of the project, CDOT will aim to reduce impacts on the traveling public and minimize impacts to the environment while providing an economical solution.
