I-70 Glenwood Canyon/Grizzly Creek Rockfall Fence

About the Project

This emergency safety project will repair and replace 17 rockfall fences on the northside of Glenwood Canyon that were damaged during the Grizzly Creek Fire. Two new rockfall fences will also be installed.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • Work on this project is weather dependent. On inclement weather days traffic control will be removed in order to let the snowplows safely clear the roadway in Glenwood Canyon.
  • The project team is assessing work heading into the Spring and potential traffic holds for crane or helicopter operations. Updates can be found on this webpage as that plan builds out.

Traffic Impacts

  • The majority of work on this project is occurring on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon between MP 119-125 westbound just west of Hanging Lake Tunnel. There will be a right lane closure and traffic control in place. Speeds are reduced for safety through the work zone. Delays are minimal through the work zone.
