I-25 Resurfacing North of Walsenburg Project

Project completed

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with contractor Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., is proud to announce the successful completion of a significant safety enhancement project on Interstate 25. The project limits were approximately 9 miles north of Walsenburg near the Huerfano Butte at Mile Point 59 to after the Lascar Road Exit at MP 64.

Structural repairs were completed on bridge structures over the Huerfano River and the Greasewood Arroyo. To provide motorists with a better driving experience, various asphalt operations were completed that include milling, paving, new asphalt overlay and diamond grinding for a smoother surface. Other safety improvements include new guardrail to replace damaged guardrail and to bring the guardrail to current safety standards. Updated striping was completed for brighter and more visible lane recognition. Rumble strips were installed on the shoulders and will be an effective measure for reducing roadway departure crashes

Project Benefits:

  • New asphalt overlay to the existing pavement will provide motorists with a smoother ride.
  • Other safety improvements include replacing guardrail and updating striping for brighter and more visible lane recognition.
  • Rumble strips will be installed on the shoulder and are an effective measure for reducing roadway departure crashes.
