I-25 and Fillmore Street Interchange
Project Overview
Construction on the Interstate 25 and Fillmore Street Interchange project in Colorado Springs is progressing as crews work to complete work on the new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The project converted the existing interchange into a DDI configuration—the second along the Front Range and the third in Colorado.
The new interchange provides a more efficient traffic flow by allowing for continuous transition on and off the highway, increased traffic capacity and reducing the conflict points at intersections. Additionally, larger pedestrian walkways and bike paths will improve safety through the corridor.

The project is approximately 86 percent complete and on pace to be complete by summer 2016.
In April, crews replaced the top five inches of asphalt across the bridge and installed new median drainage. In May, crews painted the bridge structure, installed pedestrian guardrails, and curbs and gutters. Installation of permanent traffic signals, and final signing and striping work is forthcoming.
Normal working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be some nighttime and weekend work as needed.
About the DDI
The diverging diamond interchange transitions traffic from one side of the road to the opposite side. This innovative interchange will improve safety and traffic flow through the corridor to meet existing and future travel demands.
As part of this project, two new bridges will be constructed to replace the current bridge structure, which was built in 1960 and widened in the 1970s. Each bridge will be approximately 220 feet long, with a 14-foot-wide sidewalk on the eastbound side for pedestrian use. There also will be 5-foot-wide bicycle lanes eastbound and westbound on both bridges. In addition, the southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp for I-25 will be lengthened to accommodate the amount of traffic utilizing this route.
