I-25 Bridge Preventative Maintenance in Adams County

Project Complete

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation and prime contractor, ABCO Contracting, began preventative bridge maintenance on I-25 at the bridge over the railroad north of East 58th Avenue and the bridge over East 62nd Avenue in Adams County in July. The project includes the removal and replacement of bridge expansion devices, concrete repairs to the existing bridge deck, bridge wall repairs, polyester concrete overlays, and concrete panel repairs on the roadway approaching the bridges. Operations impact both north and southbound I-25 lanes surrounding the two bridge locations (Mile Point 215.5 to Mile Point 215.8).

Project Benefits

  • Increasing the overall longevity of the bridges' service life by replacing bridge expansion devices.
  • Providing greater safety for the traveling public with necessary bridge repair operations.
  • Creating smoother more enjoyable travel paths for motorists from roadway improvements and polyester concrete overlays.

Work Schedule:

  • The project began in early July and is anticipated to be completed in April 2024.
  • General working hours will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.
  • Crews will begin working on northbound I-25 from June until the end of August. Work will then transition to southbound I-25 from the beginning of September to November.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts for the duration of construction:

  • Intermittent ramp closures on the 58th Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-25 during working hours. Detour routes will be in place during ramp closures.
  • Intermittent ramp closures on the I-76 on-ramp to southbound I-25 with detour routes in place during working hours.
  • Single, double and triple lane closures with at least one through lane of traffic open at all times.
  • The I-25 Central Express Lane between US 36 and Denver will not be impacted by construction work.
  • There will be no closures on I-25 during daytime hours as it relates to this project.
  • While crews replace expansion joints, large steel plates will be placed on the roadway to help facilitate work.
    • Drivers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution traveling over the steel plates.
    • Please slow down within the work zone, watch for construction vehicles entering the roadway, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
  • Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal, with anticipated delays up to 10 minutes.
  • Refer to COtrip.org for real-time travel conditions and lane closure information.
