I-70 Vail Pass Wall Repairs

Project Overview
For this project, crews will be repairing eight different sections of soil-retaining walls and drainage on I-70 at two locations:
- US Highway 24 interchange, west of Vail
- East of the Big Horn Road interchange to west of the Shrine Pass interchange
Goal: Make this stretch of I-70 safer and enhance each wall's structural integrity.

Schedule & Travel Impacts
- Work hours:
- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Thursday
- 7 a.m. to noon on Friday
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday to Thursday, for trail work
- 6 p.m. to 11 a.m., Sunday to Thursday, on eastbound I-70
- Expect single-lane closures along I-70, with minor delays
- Bike and pedestrian trail near mile point 186 will be closed overnight, four nights a week, for two weeks. The trail will reopen each morning for full use by bicyclist and pedestrians
Background & Benefits
Most of the walls being repaired during this project were built over 40 years ago, and some sections are showing physical signs of natural wear and tear. This work is crucial as these structures hold the foundation of interstate in place. Work will prevent erosion and extend each wall's usable lifespan.
