About the Project
Crews on this project are removing and replacing the vertical lift and fire doors doors in the Hanging Lake Tunnel complex, on I-70 from mile points (MP) 125 to 126 in Glenwood Canyon. Crews also will modify electrical, mechanical, air supply and structural systems to accommodate the new doors, which are expected to last about 30 years.
Schedule and Travel Impacts
- Work hours:
- 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays
- 5 a.m. to noon Fridays
- No night work anticipated
- From 5 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Thursday, expect a single left lane closure, 24 hours a day.
- Phases
- Mid-July - early September: Westbound door construction
- Early September - mid-November: Eastbound door construction
- Mid-November - December: Testing
- Expect the following:
- a single-lane closure overnight Mondays through Thursdays to preserve the work area
- speed reductions through the tunnel
- a single-lane of alternating traffic during work hours
- signs announcing lane shifts in both directions
