US 34 East Between Greeley and Kersey
Project Overview
When the September 2013 storms wiped out a large section of US 34 east of Greeley, it became clear that a better, long-term solution was needed to ensure the road could withstand a major rain event in the future.
In October 2014, construction began on a $22 million permanent fix to the road that includes a new bridge. Flatiron Constructors Inc. was selected as the contractor for the project.
In October 2015, traffic moved onto the new bridge over the “big hole”. Although the bridge is not over an active watercourse, heavy rains in May 2015 again demonstrated that this area is subject to flooding when high water inundated the work area. Together, the bridge and new box culvert west of the US 34 / US 34 Business intersection, provide needed drainage improvements for this important transportation corridor
The project was substantially complete in December 2015.
January 2016 – All lanes are now in the final alignment. Final signing, striping and finishing work will occur throughout the month.
