CO 83 & US 285 Centerline Rumble Strip Project
Project Complete!
The project will include the CO 83 Rumble Strip Installation on centerline between MP 30.30 and MP 47.20 and on the US 285 centerline between MP 299 and 233.21. The project goal is to improve safety for drivers. Rumble strips are an effective measure for reducing roadway departure crashes. Grooves are cut into the pavement which cause a vibration and rumbling sound when the tires of a moving vehicle come in contact with the cut pavement.
Project Benefits
- The noise and vibration produced by rumble strips alert drivers when they leave the travel lane.
- Centerline rumble strips reduce head-on collisions and cross-over crashes
- Shoulder rumble strips reduce run-off-the-road crashes and warn drivers when they have drifted from their lane.
