CO 59 Resurfacing from Seibert to Cope

Project completed

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin overlay and rehabilitation work on CO 59 from Seibert to Cope on May 18. This project will improve roadway function and make it safer for traffic. The project consists of overlaying the existing roadway from Seibert (MP 41.07) to Cope (MP 67.14), with 2.5 inches of hot mix asphalt and striping. Patching of degraded pavement areas will occur from Seibert (MP 41.07) to Kit Carson (MP 0.00). In addition, various structures will receive rehabilitation work, which includes deck repairs and bridge railing.

Proposed Work Schedule

  • Beginning May 18, motorists will encounter work on both northbound and southbound lanes of CO 59 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • No work will take place starting May 22 at noon through May 25 for Memorial Day weekend.
  • For Independence Day, no work will take place from July 2 at noon through July 5.

Traffic Impacts

Impacts will include:

  • single lane closures operated by temporary signals 24/7 for structure work from May through July.
  • When paving begins in July, there will be single lane closures with flagging operations during daylight hours.
  • Speeds will be reduced to 40 MPH in work zones.
  • The public should expect delays up to 15 minutes.
  • Traffic fines will be doubled in the work zone. Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zones, drive with caution, and give themselves extra travel time.
