CO 138 Logan County Widening Project

Project complete

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with contractor Simon Contractors, is proud to announce the successful completion of the widening and overlay project on CO 138 between Sterling and Iliff. The contractor will return in early spring 2024 to finish remaining punch list items and minor culvert work, this work is expected to have minimal impacts to motorists.

The construction was east of Sterling starting at Mile Point 3.00 and ended east of Iliff at MP 13.50. The widening work was between MP 3.00 and the CO 113 junction. To provide a smoother roadway for motorists, the existing asphalt was milled and filled with 4 inches of new hot mix asphalt for the full length of the project.

Additional safety measures included upgrading the bridge rail and guardrail to bring them up to current standards. To improve wayfinding, new signage was installed. Brighter and more visible lane markings were painted for better lane recognition. Additionally, rumble strips were added to the shoulders and centerline, which is an effective strategy to decrease the occurrence of crashes due to vehicles departing from their lane of travel.

CDOT would like to thank the traveling public and local communities for their patience and understanding during the long construction period.
