Project Overview

In March 2020 CDOT crews will begin an intersection improvement project in the Town of Elizabeth, Colorado. Currently County Road 13 and Elizabeth Street form two T-Intersections approximately 300 feet apart from each other. This project will realign the County Road 13 leg to the Elizabeth Street location, provide necessary widening on SH 86 and Elizabeth Street to accommodate the new intersection design, and reduce two traffic signal locations into one. The project will help to alleviate traffic congestion and make this area safer by reducing rear end vehicle accidents.

Traffic Impacts

  • Expect one lane traffic, flagger control during construction activities, and a temporary traffic signal during non-work hours.

Work Schedule

  • Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Public Notice

Week of April 12 to 18

Beginning the evening of Sunday, April 19th, CO 86 travelers through Elizabeth will be directed into one lane controlled by flaggers for striping realignment in the vicinity of the intersection with South Elizabeth Street. The new lane configuration and traffic control devices will permit the closure of access to South Elizabeth Street from CO 86 in both directions to start on April 20th.  This closure will permit workers to remove and replace approximately 80 feet of South Elizabeth Street pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, handicap ramps, drainage culverts, traffic signal equipment, and widen the street for future access to the new road to the north. Affected traffic will be re-directed to South Elbert Street and Elm Street as a detour to access South Elizabeth Street and the adjacent businesses. This section of South Elizabeth Street is expected to re-open on May 22nd.
