CO 1 Striping & Access Control Plan
Project Description
The Town of Wellington is experiencing growth both north and south of Colorado State Highway 1, placing larger demands on the highway. In addition, CO 1 serves as Wellington’s main street and the Town wants to create a place with pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. With limited right-of-way (ROW), this introduces a challenge of maintaining highway mobility in a main street setting.
Colorado State Highway 1 Control Access Plan
As Wellington grows, a larger demand is placed on the highway. With limited right of way (ROW), this introduces a challenge of maintaining highway mobility in a main street setting.
An Access Control Plan (ACP) with short- and long-term access recommendations will guide CDOT and the Town of Wellington during future access requests and changes. The ACP and operations analysis will also look at the short- and long-term transportation needs of SH 1 and identify and prioritize short-, mid-, and long-term improvements, including an option to modify the striping layout on CO 1 in Wellington.
Travel Impacts
The CO 1 Operational Study looks at the short- and long-term transportation needs of CO 1 from Larimer County Road (LCR) 62 to the I-25 interchange, shown in Figure 1. The study will also develop an Access Control Plan (ACP) that will provide the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Larimer County, and the Town of Wellington with a plan for access changes, a striping and signing plan, and a functioning highway. The study will identify and prioritize short-, mid-, and long-term improvements through a cooperative process.
