Bikeway Construction Updates
US 36 Express Lanes Phase 2 Bikeway Opened on Tuesday, March 1!
The second phase of the US 36 Express Lanes commuter bikeway between 88th Street in Louisville/Superior and Table Mesa in Boulder opened on March 1! Commuters can now ride the entire 18 miles of bikeway from Denver to Boulder.
The bikeway is open to cyclists; however, to ensure a final quality product, travelers may notice some minor construction, landscaping and cleanup activities going on this spring.
Bikeway Overview
The US 36 corridor provides travelers with choices on how to get to where they need to go. One of the major components of the US 36 Express Lanes Project is the bikeway, which runs the length of both phases of the project, where feasible, from 80th Avenue in Westminster to Table Mesa/Foothills Parkway in Boulder.
The bikeway:
- Opened to the public in 2016.
- Includes 12-foot-wide lanes with 2-foot-wide shoulders and 6-inch thick concrete for a comfortable ride and to ensure the path's longevity.
- Runs on the south side of US 36 from the existing underpass at 80th Avenue in Westminster to West Flatiron Crossing Circle, where it crosses under US 36 and connects to Tape Drive near 88th Street in Louisville/Superior. From there, it runs on the north or the south side, depending on the area to Table Mesa/Foothills Parkway in Boulder.
- Provides a safe way to travel through the US 36 corridor.
- Has signage along the path to direct users to bikeway route and alert them of any narrower sections.
- Links to the existing bike paths and trails within the corridor to provide a continuous bikeway.
- Improves the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad crossing near 112th Avenue.
