CO 9 at Currant Creek
The project consists of replacing structure J-15-B on SH 9 in Fremont County; 11.3 miles north of the US 50 and SH 9 intersection. The existing structure intersects Currant Creek and is a triple span structure with steel girders, concrete deck, and concrete piers.
FASTER – Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery – is fully funding this project. Financed by vehicle registration fees, FASTER established a Statewide Bridge Enterprise, funding the maintenance and repair of Colorado’s most urgent structurally-deficient and functionally-obsolete bridges.
This section of SH 9 consists mainly of local traffic and is used for recreational activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, skiing and general access to the mountains. However, SH 9 is not considered a major access route to the mountains.
The intent of the project work is to replace the structure, while not changing the surface elevation of the floodplain. The 24-foot existing roadway width on the structure requires an on-site detour to be in-place for the replacement of the structure.
