I-25 and Alameda Avenue Interchange
About The Project:
On April 1, 2010, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and its contractor Jalisco International Inc., began a bridge replacement project on Alameda Avenue over I-25. The project will replace the Alameda Avenue Bridge over I-25 with one that is wider to accommodate an additional lane in each direction. The $37.4 million project is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
In addition to the bridge widening, the following improvements will be made:
- Reconstruction of portions of I-25 north and south of Alameda Avenue
- Southbound I-25 off-ramp drainage and widening improvements
- Construction of a new cofferdam
- Construction of a water quality pond
- Replacement of sanitary sewer lines
- Sign and traffic signal work
- Landscaping and other enhancements
Throughout much of the project, motorists can expect lane closures on I-25 Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. On Alameda Avenue, single lane closures can be expected Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and double lane closures can take place Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Full closures of I-25 can also be expected later in the project for bridge demolition, girder installation and bridge deck panel installation.
Speed limit on secondary roads will be reduced to 25 mph and the speed limit on I-25 will be reduced to 45 mph in 2011 during the reconstruction of portions of I-25. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all traffic signs and flaggers and to "Slow for the Cone Zone." Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled. The entire project was complete by the end of September 2012.
