Phase 5: 12th Avenue/Wadsworth Boulevard Water Quality Pond
This phase will construct a new water quality extended detention basin (pond) located at the southeast quadrant of Wadsworth Boulevard and 12th Avenue. Water quality ponds are shallow depressions designed to protect the environment by filtering pollutants from stormwater runoff before the runoff enters adjacent waterways. The proposed pond will be located on CDOT property adjacent to currently undeveloped land where the City of Lakewood plans to build a new city park. Coordination is ongoing between CDOT and the City of Lakewood to integrate the two new facilities. Design began in late 2023 and will be completed in late summer 2024.
- The approximate location of the new six-foot-deep water quality pond being planning in conjunction with the US 6/Wadsworth Boulevard interchange improvements is in the southeast corner of 12th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.
- The project will include improved pedestrian and bicycle access to provide connectivity to the park.
- The existing sidewalk along the east side of Wadsworth Boulevard between 10th Avenue and 12th Avenue will remain.
- The City of Lakewood Two Creeks Park will be adjacent to the water quality pond, in the area east of Wadsworth Boulevard between 10th Avenue and 12th Avenue.
