Weekly Update & Holiday Schedule


Traffic Impacts & Schedule - Dec. 29 to Jan. 4


Please be advised of the following traffic impacts, restrictions, holiday schedule and planned work for next week for the Phase 3 Southwest Quadrant Improvements at US 6 and Wadsworth Boulevard project in Lakewood, Jefferson County. 

Project Holiday Schedule: There are no scheduled traffic impacts on US 6 or the W. 6th Ave. Frontage Road from noon on Tuesday, Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. Intermittent block or lane closures may otherwise be in place as needed during working hours. The project is nearing full completion.

Weekday Traffic Impacts

 
Monday, Dec. 30 to Friday, Jan. 3 W. 6th Ave Frontage Road - intermittent daytime block and/or lane closures
  • There are no planned closures from noon on Tuesday, Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2
  • Intermittent block and/or lane closures will otherwise be in place during working hours, as needed
  • Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, except holidays
  • The traffic shift to the south has been removed
  • The Frontage Road is an eastbound-only roadway
  • The Carr St. on ramp has reopened
  • The new eastbound US 6 auxiliary lane from the Carr St. on ramp to the southbound Wadsworth Blvd off ramp is also open
  • Signs, message boards and construction devices are present alerting motorists and pedestrians to work zone closures and restrictions
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
Work includes seeding, installing signs, light poles and lane delineators, and performing other punchlist tasks.

Work Zone & Pedestrian Safety Alert

 

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Kraemer North America appreciate your cooperation during construction as we work to improve the corridor. Please help maintain safety within the work zones by following these important safety tips:

  • The Frontage Road is an eastbound-only direction roadway
  • A reminder to local and general traffic to please slow down when driving along the Frontage Road within the project limits
  • Please obey posted speed limits
  • Wrong-way driving along the Frontage Road is not permitted
  • Pedestrian access is not permitted within any active work zone for safety reasons, including on adjacent side streets during related work activities
  • Caution is advised when driving in active work zones as construction crews are working adjacent to live traffic
  • The on ramp to eastbound US 6 at Carr has reopened
  • The auxiliary lane on eastbound US 6 from the Carr St. on ramp to the southbound Wadsworth Blvd. off ramp is open
  • Watch for construction crews
  • Drive with caution

General Impacts, Schedule & Scope of Work

  • The project began in late January and has an anticipated completion date of early 2025
  • Periodic overnight lane and ramp closures will be taken on eastbound  U.S. Highway 6 between Garrison Street and the Wadsworth Blvd. interchange during certain work activities
  • Single overnight lane closures on eastbound US 6 will be in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays and 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends, as needed
  • Double overnight lane closures may be taken on eastbound US 6 during certain work activities. These will be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends, as needed
  • A 24/7 closure of the Carr St. on-ramp to eastbound US 6 is in place until Dec. 20
  • Single lane closures will exist from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday on southbound Wadsworth Blvd from Highland Drive to 5th Avenue
  • Caution is advised as crews may be working adjacent to live traffic
  • Periodic overnight ramp closures will be in place to accommodate safe access to the Wadsworth Blvd. section of the work zone
  • Intermittent weekday block to block closures along the Frontage Road from west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd off-ramp will exist, with minor detours in place to adjacent side streets
  • No pedestrian access is permitted along the Frontage Road and within the work zone on adjacent side streets during block to block closures 
  • Pedestrians are being detoured south on Meadowlark Drive or other side streets to bypass the work zone
  • Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Flaggers will be present on the Frontage Road as needed during working hours and local access will be maintained
  • The project consists of adding an auxiliary lane on eastbound US 6 from Carr St. to Wadsworth; building sound walls along the Frontage Road from west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd. off-ramp; realigning a portion of the Frontage Road and on-ramp at Carr; making drainage improvements; adding a multi-use path on the west side of Wadsworth from 5th Ave. to Highland Drive, and installing flashing beacons at pedestrian crosswalks within the Wadsworth Blvd. interchange
  • The project limits on US 6 extend from MP 280.36 to MP 280.84
  • The project limits on the Frontage Road extend from just west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd off-ramp
  • Work on the auxiliary lane and noise walls will progress west to east
  • The walls will be between 12 and 15 feet in height
  • Guardrails will be built on either side of the walls for protection against errant drivers
  • The project limits on Wadsworth Blvd extend from Highland Drive to 4th Ave or MP 12.21 to MP 12.66
  • Some overnight and weekend work can be expected later in the project
  • This state and federally funded project is the third of a five-phase project to reconstruct the US 6 & Wadsworth Interchange
  • This phase is designed to enhance pedestrian connectivity and mitigate traffic noise
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
