How to Submit a Research Project
CDOT seeks transportation research ideas from employees, universities, researchers, and the public twice a year.
Research ideas are submitted in the form of problem statements. We invite submissions for the next fiscal year in February and August. The next Research Problem Statement due date is August 12, 2024.
Problem Statement Overview
Thank you for your interest in transportation research. From this page, you can learn about and submit needs and research ideas for consideration as research projects. This is known as a Problem Statement.

- CDOT Research Branch is seeking Problem Statements in all of our traditional subject areas. In addition, there are specific Areas of Emphasis that we are currently focusing on.
Submitting a Problem Statement
If you are ready to submit a Problem Statement, here is the process:
- Use the Problem Statement Intake Form. You will be asked to download and complete a Problem Statement Form and PowerPoint slide. Please rename these files as described in the instructions. Then fill out the form and, at the appropriate step, upload the Problem Statement and PowerPoint files.
