About the CDOT Safety Patrol Program Sponsored by GEICO

The CDOT Safety Patrol sponsored by GEICO is an integral part of the state's incident management program. CDOT is proud to team up with GEICO, the exclusive sponsor of the CDOT Safety Patrol. The goal of the collaborative sponsorship is to create a long-term, supplemental funding source for the Safety Patrol program. It provides limited roadside assistance at no charge to drivers in need, including:

  • providing fuel
  • changing flat tires
  • jump-starting vehicles
  • providing lockout assistance
  • moving disabled vehicles to the shoulder
  • assisting stranded motorists
  • providing back up to the Colorado State Patrol at incident scenes
  • clearing debris from the highway to improve traffic flow and prevent future incidents

CDOT is proud to offer this service to all motorists. To keep you safe and to keep traffic moving, the CDOT Safety Patrol sponsored by GEICO operates on sections of Colorado's highways, including the metro area, during peak travel times on weekdays and weekends. The service is free.

Program Background

CDOT first established the program, then known as the Mile High Courtesy Patrol, in 1992. Since that time the Safety Patrol has driven more than five million miles and responded to more than 500,000 incidents. Each year, the Safety Patrol assists over 40,000 motorists.
