I-25 North Express Lanes: Mead to Berthoud
The I-25 Express Lanes from Mead to Berthoud are a continuation of the approximately 20 miles of improvements completed on I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins over the past six years (known as the “I-25 North” projects). These 6 miles of Express Lanes will expand and enhance I-25, from Colorado Highway 66 in Mead and connect to the newly completed Express Lanes on I-25 just south of Colorado Highway 56 in Berthoud.
Improvements along this 6-mile stretch of Express Lanes include:
- Widen the inside roadway shoulder to 10 feet and the outside roadway shoulder to 12 feet.
- Fully reconstruct the I-25 and Weld County Road 34 interchange.
- Fully reconstruct bridges along this section of I-25, including:
- Weld County Road 32.
- Weld County Road 34.
- I-25 over Great Western Railway.
- Weld County Road 38.
- I-25 over Valley Road.
- Reconstruct I-25 to add one 12-foot Express Lane in each direction from CO 66 to just south of CO 56 with a 4-foot painted buffer separating the tolled Express Lane from the general-purpose travel lanes.
- Install and integrate tolling and Intelligent Transportation Systems equipment.
How to Use The Express Lane
I travel in a:
Vehicles with one to two people pay a toll to use the Express Lanes with an ExpressToll account or through a License Plate Toll.
HOV3+ users must have an ExpressToll account, a Switchable HOV transponder set to “HOV” mode, and three or more people in the vehicle to use the Express Lanes for free.
Motorcyclists can use the Express Lanes for free without a pass.
Bus and other transit can travel in the Express Lanes.
Corridor Basics
- Lanes are under construction.
- 6 miles of Express Lanes from Mead to Berthoud.
- When construction is completed:
- Motorcyclists will be able to use the Express Lanes for free without a pass. All other vehicles will be tolled.
- HOV 3+ and bus services will be available with a switchable HOV transponder.
- Adjustable toll pricing system will be used – prices will depend on the time of day.
- Overhead signs will indicate current toll prices. Tolls will be collected through the vehicle’s ExpressToll account or a License Plate Toll.
