CDOT makes improvements to two culverts on US 6 between Rifle and Silt

Travel Advisory

March 19, 2025 - Northwestern Colorado - Motorists should plan for 10-minute delays

Garfield County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contracting partner United Companies have begun culvert improvements along US Highway 6 between Rifle and Silt. Motorists should plan for 10-minute delays during construction hours. The project has an anticipated completion date at the beginning of April 2025.

Work will consist of one culvert replacement and improving one culvert. The project takes place at two locations on US 6. The culvert being replaced at approximately US 6 Mile Point 94.78 is 18 inches in diameter. The culvert being improved at approximate US 6 MP 94.73 is 36 inches in diameter and will receive a new sliplining. Both culverts are located near the US 6 intersection with Phillips Drive.

“Improvements and replacement of culverts will accommodate higher accumulations of rainfall,” said Regional Transportation Director Jason Smith. “These improvements lower the risks associated with flooding, help maintain the integrity of the roadway, and help to maintain safe driving conditions.”

This project is in conjunction with the CO 133 chip seal project that will start June 3. The chip seal project will improve approximately 24 miles of CO 133 from MP 66.9, Roaring Fork High School, and will continue to MP 42, McClure Pass.

Travel Impacts

Motorists will see traffic control signage from MP 92.2 (Whitewater Avenue) to MP 96.5 (west of Miller Lane) with one lane alternating traffic during the majority of the project.

  • 10-minute delays
