US 50 Culvert Repairs project is set to begin on Feb. 3
Travel Advisory
Fremont County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner American West Construction, LLC will begin culvert repair work on Feb. 3 in Cañon City. Work will occur northwest of US Highway 50 and South First Street at Mile Point 278.16.
Work will involve improving the two 72-inch corrugated metal pipes crossing under US 50 and the repair of the culvert lining. These improvements will help prevent more costly future repairs and limit traffic impacts.
A culvert is a tunnel carrying water drainage or a stream under a roadway. Culvert improvements make necessary enhancements to accommodate higher rainfall accumulations and lower the risks associated with flooding to maintain safe driving conditions.
Traffic Impacts
Beginning Feb. 3, motorists will encounter road work at the intersection of US 50 and South First Street in Cañon City. Traffic impacts will include:
- Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction at limited times
- Lane closures, guided by flaggers and pilot cars, will add delays to travel
- The project is expected to last through the end of February
