Jan. 9, 2025 - Northwestern Colorado - Project in Grand County enters winter shutdown

Grand County — The Colorado Department of Transportation has completed the construction of passing lanes on US Highway 40 between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs and has shut down for the winter. In the spring, remaining seeding and shoulder work will cause brief lane closures.

This passing lane project is along US 40 just north of Wolford Mountain Reservoir, from Mile Point 172 to MP 173. Capital Paving and Construction, of Englewood, is the contractor for this project.

“The construction of passing lanes allows for safer transportation of commercial and freight trucks, motorists and cyclists on this busy corridor by providing a stretch of highway with space and opportunity for faster vehicles to safely pass slower moving traffic,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director, Jason Smith. “The project is part of CDOT’s 10-year plan for improvements in Grand County.”
