Sign removal and replacement in El Paso and Teller Counties
Travel Advisory
El Paso and Teller Counties — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner Road Safe Traffic began working on removal and replacement of road signs along multiple highways in El Paso and Teller counties on Jan. 13.
Crews will be updating signage that will benefit the public by providing new and improved road signs along multiple highways making the routes safer routes. The project will take place in El Paso and Teller Counties.
El Paso County:
- CO Highway 16, near Fountain (Mile Point 0.00 to MP 1.31)
- CO Highway 21, near CO Springs (MP 153.641 to MP 154.112)
- US Highway 83, near Colorado Springs (MP 20.368 to MP 30.474)
- US Highway 85, near Woodland Park (MP 76.920 to MP 78.080)
- CO Highway 105, near Palmer Lake (MP 5.314 to MP 9.490)
Teller County:
- US Highway 24, near Woodland Park (MP 277.943 to MP 291.393)
- CO Highway 67, near Woodland Park (MP 76.920 to MP 78.080)
Traffic Impacts
Beginning Jan. 13, motorists can expect the following traffic impacts:
- Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Motorists can expect shoulder closures as well as single lane closures.
- Traffic fines will be doubled in the work zone.
- Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles and give themselves extra travel time.

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
