US 550 Red Mountain Pass will close tomorrow morning for winter maintenance operations

Feb. 18, 2025 - Southwestern Colorado - Motorists should plan for a lengthy delay beginning at 9 a.m.
Southwest Colorado ― The Colorado Department of Transportation will perform winter maintenance operations on US Highway 550 Red Mountain Pass beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Motorists should plan on a lengthy closure for most of the morning. Crews will work as swiftly and safely as possible to complete their work however, the closure may be extended as operations are dependent upon weather conditions and the amount of snow crews must clear from the roadway.
Traffic Impacts
Winter maintenance operations begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 19.
- Northbound travelers will encounter a closure near Ophir Road, approximately five mile north of Silverton (Mile Point 75.5)
- Southbound travelers will encounter a closure near Red Mountain Pass summit (Mile Point 79)
- Motorists should plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, or arrive and drive through the closure points before the designated closure time of 9 a.m.
- Do not bypass closed gates
