US 50C and Baxter Road Intersection Improvement Project

Travel Advisory

April 21, 2025 - Southeastern Colorado - Work will begin June 2

Pueblo County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner Siete, Inc. will begin an intersection improvement project on US Highway 50C and Baxter Road in Pueblo County on June 2. The goal is to improve safety and operational efficiency to reduce vehicular conflicts and correct sight distance limitations.

Work at the intersection includes widening the north side of westbound US 50C to improve the turning radius to and from Baxter Road, converting the right westbound US 50C through lane into a dedicated turn lane and acceleration lane, and adding channelized islands to separate opposing traffic flows and facilitate left and right turns. Other work includes milling and paving, installing new curb and gutter, and adding streetlights and signs. Westbound US 50C will revert to two through lanes after the intersection.

“This type of safety improvement project is critical for intersections such as this one that support a high daily volume of traffic,” said CDOT Region Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. “This is an excellent example of how CDOT’s traffic safety initiatives will benefit the traveling public in all regions of the state.”
