Sidewalk improvement project begins May 5 in the heart of downtown Mancos
Travel Advisory
Montezuma County — On Monday, May 5, the Colorado Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Town of Mancos and contractor Morton Electric, will begin a sidewalk improvement project on Grand Avenue and Main Street in downtown Mancos. Work includes over 1,000 feet of new sidewalk and installation of 64 new ramps along eight blocks, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Work is expected to be completed in September.
“This project will enhance safety and accessibility for the community of Mancos, providing improved sidewalks that will facilitate safer travel options for residents and visitors,” said Transportation Director Julie Constan.
Along with new ADA curb ramps, there will be upgrades to driveway ramps and stormwater drainage systems. At the intersection of Main Street and Mesa Street, on the northeast and northwest corners, inlets will be replaced and stormwater pipes and drainage will receive upgrades.
While work occurs, shoulder and sidewalk closures are expected. The contractor will work directly with property owners to give advance notice and mitigate impacts to residences and businesses. Please obey signs, especially those guiding pedestrians through closure areas.
Schedules are subject to change based on available resources and weather. The project completion is slated for late September. For real-time updates on this project and others across the state, please visit COtrip.org.
