CDOT schedules I-70 ramp paving in New Castle beginning next week
Travel Advisory
Garfield County — The Colorado Department of Transportation has added on and off ramp paving of the New Castle interchange, Exit 105 beginning on Monday, Sept. 16 to Sept. 27 as part of the New Castle roundabout project. The ramp paving will require full ramp closures and traffic will need to use alternate interstate exits and entrance access points during these closures. No more than one ramp will be closed at a time.
Because the interchange is connected by US Highway 6, motorists can use either of the two interchanges at Silt (Exit 97) or Castle Creek (Exit 109) to get to their final destination. However, motorists should plan for additional travel time. Motorists may also encounter slow traffic during the morning and evening commute. Ramp work is anticipated to begin the week of Sept. 16 with milling operations on three of the four ramps, the eastbound off ramp and both of the westbound on/off ramps. The eastbound on ramp was paved last year.
For the most up-to-date information on the ramp work, please watch for paving updates on the project’s variable message boards. All work is weather dependent.
Traffic Impacts to I-70

- Motorists should expect potential traffic slow downs and back ups at the work zone locations depending on the time of day and traffic volumes
- When ramps are closed, motorists will need to use on and off ramps at other nearby interchanges
- No more than one ramp will be closed at a time
