Temporary traffic signal will direct one-way alternating traffic on US 40, Oct. 28 to Nov. 1
Travel Advisory
Grand County — On Monday, Oct. 28, crews will perform week-long maintenance operations to replace a culvert on US Highway 40 between Steamboat Springs and Kremmling. Work will occur approximately half a mile east of County Road 282 (Mile Points 166 to 167). Motorists will encounter up to 20 minute delays, full stops and 24/7 one-lane alternating traffic. Motorists will be guided by signs and flaggers during daytime maintenance operations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A temporary traffic signal will guide one-way alternating traffic during evening hours, 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Culvert maintenance was originally scheduled for this week however operations were postponed due to weather. Motorists are encouraged to check www.COtrip.org for the most current construction impacts.
Traffic Impacts
Operations will take place from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, Monday through Friday. 24/7 traffic impacts include:
- Motorists should plan for up to 20 minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
- Vehicles will be guided by flagging personnel and signs during daylight hours
- A temporary traffic signal will be in place to guide motorists after hours
- A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
