US 24 resurfacing project is set to begin in early June
Travel Advisory
El Paso County — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner Schmidt Construction, will begin surface treatment work on June 3 on US Highway 24 from Falcon to Peyton. Work will take place along US 24, between Garrett Rd to Smith Ranch Rd, from Mile Point 318.5 to MP 332.
The project will improve and prolong the life of the road surface. Work will primarily consist of resurfacing, updating the guardrail, striping, minor sign replacement, removing the outdated wooden bridge rail at two structures, replacing them with new steel bridge rail and guardrail, and adding centerline and edge line rumble strips. Work will be done in both the north- and southbound lanes for a thirteen-mile stretch of US 24. A smooth road or highway has many important benefits, including safety and improved quality for the driving experience. A smoother surface also offers safer driving for motorists. The project is expected to be complete in late September.

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:
