Drew Dix & Dillon Drive/I-25 safety and mobility improvements nearing completion

News Release

May 1, 2024 - Southeastern Colorado - Elected officials and CDOT leaders gathered April 30 for a ribbon cutting ceremony

Pueblo — Elected officials and Colorado Department of Transportation leaders gathered Tuesday on the new northbound Interstate 25 frontage road between Dillon Drive and Drew Dix Parkway (exit 104) to celebrate the completion of safety and mobility improvements at the interchange. The northbound I-25 frontage road is expected to open to traffic in mid-May.

Portions of the interchange were constructed in 2016 as part of the Dillon Drive Interchange Project. The current project was deferred until funding was available. Construction began in early 2023. This project incorporated a new roundabout at the intersection of Drew Dix Parkway and the frontage road west of I-25. The southbound I-25 off-ramp at Drew Dix Parkway was realigned to utilize the new roundabout. The roundabout improves safety by eliminating conflict points associated with two, closely spaced intersections on the west side of I-25.

“In addition to the new roundabout on Drew Dix Parkway, the new northbound frontage road along I-25 helps improve the mobility and safety of the traveling public and completes the improvements of the interchange,” said CDOT Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson.

SEMA Construction is the prime contractor for the $10 million project. Other project features include a new box culvert, roadside drainage improvements, new sidewalk connections, lighting, guardrail, signs and pavement markings.

"I-25 continues to be one of our state's highest priorities and this project area is one of our busiest carrying approximately 40,000 vehicles a day, 4,000 of which are commercial vehicles," said CDOT Deputy Executive Director Herman Stockinger, "and I am pleased to be in attendance today for the celebration of the completion of another CDOT 10-year plan priority project here at Dillon Drive and Drew Dix Parkway."

Final project completion is expected within weeks.
