Baptist Road & Terrazzo Drive Roundabout community open house to be held June 11
Travel Advisory
Monument — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner Native Sun Construction, will host an informational community open house on Tuesday, June 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tri Lakes Chamber of Commerce located at 166 2nd Street in Monument. This is an informal, open house.
This open house will be an opportunity for the community to gain information and ask questions regarding the benefits of the project, construction phases and logistics of traffic traveling through the construction zone. Both CDOT engineers and Native Sun Project Managers will be available to provide information and answer questions.
Project Information
Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of West Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive just west of the Interstate 25 interchange will begin June 3. This project will begin with the demolition of existing curb and gutter, reshaping roadside drainage and installation of new storm drains. Next will be the construction of new curb and gutter configurations and the construction of the new roundabout.
During all phases of this project, access to businesses along Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive will remain open. Adequate space for commercial truck traffic that is common at this intersection will be provided and lanes will be clearly marked.
Roundabouts greatly reduce the amount of time needed to get through an intersection. They improve traffic flow by allowing vehicles to continue to move without stopping, or with less stopping, through an intersection. Additionally, they increase safety and reduce incidences of crashes by preventing left turns across oncoming traffic. When crashes do occur, they are typically less severe than traditional intersections.
Traffic Impacts
Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:
- The project is set to begin June 3.
- Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on construction occurring at Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive in all directions.
- Working hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. when a single-lane, alternating traffic pattern is needed to complete work.
- One through lane in each direction will remain open.
- Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, at some phases of the project with delays of up to 15 minutes. When this occurs, the working hours will be 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
- Work is expected to be complete in late October.
