Baptist Road & Terrazzo Drive roundabout construction begins June 3
Travel Advisory
Monument — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner Native Sun Construction, will begin construction of a roundabout at the intersection of West Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive just west of the Interstate 25 interchange starting June 3.
This project will begin with the demolition of existing curb and gutter, reshaping roadside drainage and installation of new storm drains. Next will be the construction of new curb and gutter configurations and the construction of the new roundabout.
During all phases of this project, access to businesses along Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive will remain open. Adequate space for commercial truck traffic that is common at this intersection will be provided and lanes will be clearly marked. At times, it will be necessary to have short lane closures lasting no more than 15 minutes to allow the contractor to move equipment and materials.
Roundabouts greatly reduce the amount of time needed to get through an intersection. They improve traffic flow by allowing vehicles to continue to move without stopping, or with less stopping, through an intersection. Additionally, they increase safety and reduce incidences of crashes by preventing left turns across oncoming traffic. When crashes do occur, they are typically less severe than traditional intersections.
Traffic Impacts
Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:
-
Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
-
One through lane in each direction will remain open with brief lane closures of up to 15 minutes will occur to allow the contractor to move equipment and materials.
-
Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, at some phases of the project. Delays will be no more than 15 minutes.
-
Project completion is expected at the end of October.
