Colorado Highway 10 closure under Interstate 25 to begin April 3
Project Update
Huerfano County — Starting on Wednesday, April 3, the Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner Siete, Inc., will close both directions of Colorado Highway 10 under Interstate 25 at Exit 50, with detour routes in place. The 10-day closure is necessary during safety-critical placement of bridge girders and other deck work for the southbound I-25 bridge structure over CO 10. This work will not impact traffic in either direction of I-25 which is currently in a single lane configuration in the northbound I-25 lanes.
Traffic Impacts
Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:
- During the safety-critical bridge girder placement and deck work, CO 10 under I-25 will be closed in both directions for 10-days, with detour routes in place.
- The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3 and last until approx. 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12.
- The closure is necessary to maintain safety for the traveling public, the surrounding community and the construction crews as bridge girders are lifted by crane and placed on the new bridge structure, and other safety-critical deck work is performed.
- Detour routes will add approximately five miles and 10 minutes to drive times (see map).
- The project limits on CO 10 are at the junction of CO 10/US 160 and extend from Mile Point 0 to MP .25
- Both directions of traffic on I-25 within the project limits are in a single lane alignment in the northbound lanes and both southbound ramps are closed, with detour routes in place
- The temporary single lane alignment and ramp closures exist 24/7 for approx. three months while crews replace the southbound I-25 bridge.
- Lanes are reduced in width to 12-feet with narrowed shoulders and caution is advised.
- A speed limit of 55 mph will be enforced until further notice.
- The project limits on I-25 extend from MP 51 to MP 49
- Signs, barrier and construction devices are present to alert motorists to the closures, change in lane alignment and detour routes.
- Caution is advised.
