US 50 Single Lane Closure at Howard for Bridge Deck Replacement

July 19, 2024 - Southeastern Colorado - Travelers can expect single lane, alternating traffic with 15 minute delays late July through October

Pueblo — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner ARY Corporation are preparing for a bridge deck replacement at Mile Point 233.8 in Howard. This work will require the closure of one lane from MP 233 to MP 234, requiring traffic to alternate on a single lane guided by a temporary traffic signal. Work will begin in late July and will continue through October. Travelers can expect delays of 15 minutes.

Work is weather dependent.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:

  • Traffic control and temporary signals will be operating 24/7 from mid-July through mid-September from MP 233 to MP 234
  • 11 foot width restriction.
  • Reduced speeds in the workzone
  • Plan ahead and expect delays of up to 15 minutes
  • The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2024
  • Hayden Pass is not a recommended detour route

Project Overview

Project work consists of resurfacing US 50 from Coaldale to Salida from Mile Point 222 to MP 241. Once complete, the project will improve drivability and provide safer driving conditions for motorists.

  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
