CDOT crews perform US 40 paving operations through July 18
Travel Advisory
Grand County — Beginning Wednesday, July 10, crews will be perform two-day surface treatment operations on the US Highway 40 Tabernash bridge (Mile Points 223 to 224). Motorists traveling east of Tabernash will encounter 10 to 15 minute delays, full stops and one-lane alternating traffic between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
On Tuesday afternoon, crews completed surface treatment of a one-mile segment of US 40 in Fraser (Mile Points 227 to 228). Next week, motorists can expect paving operations to continue east on US 40 along multiple segments between Tabernash and Granby. CDOT crews will work as swiftly as possible to complete the surface treatment; however paving operations are weather dependent.
CDOT urges motorists to plan ahead and check COtrip.org for the most current highway construction impacts.
Traffic Impacts
Operations will take place July 8 through 18. Daytime work hours will range from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Traffic impacts will include:
- Motorists should plan for up to 15 minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
- Vehicles will be guided by flagging personnel and signs
- Access in and out of intersections may be restricted at times
- A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
