CDOT performs surface treatment on US 285 Poncha Pass
Travel Advisory
Chaffee and Saguache Counties— Motorists can expect up to 15-minute delays on US Highway 285 between Poncha Springs and Villa Groove while the Colorado Department of Transportation performs crack sealing operations. Operations will take place along a 2-mile segment of US 285 on Poncha Pass.
US 285 surface treatment operations began Monday, January 29 and will continue through Friday, February 2 as weather conditions permit.
Traffic Impacts
Operations will take place Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Plan for full stops and brief 15-minute delays
- Expect one-lane alternating traffic guided by signs, cones and flagging personnel
- A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
