Resurfacing project complete on CO 64 and CO 13 west and south of Meeker
News Release
Rio Blanco County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contract partner, United Companies, are pleased to announce the completion of the resurfacing and bridge work near the Town of Meeker on Colorado Highways 64 and 13.
Resurfacing occurred on CO 64 just west of the intersection of CO 13 (Mile Point 65 to MP 73) and on CO 13 just south of Meeker (MP 36 to 39). This includes full depth reclamation on CO 13, between MP 36 and 37, on this severely damaged section of roadway. To complete full depth reclamation, crews demolished the section of roadway, then regraded and compacted road base with new pavement on top.
“This project was able to address four miles of Colorado Highway 13 that have been affected by heavy traffic from I-70 closures in recent years,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Colorado Highway 64 also received eight miles of new paving that will greatly improve the traveling conditions for many residents of Rio Blanco County. Work on the White River Bridge will extend the bridge's lifespan and provide a smoother ride for the traveling public.”
Other improvements include guardrail upgrades, rumble strips and pavement marking. Completed bridge improvements on CO 13 at MP 38.7, over the White River, were installation of a new bridge expansion device, waterproofing membrane and sealing bridge joints.
The project is one of several with improvements on CO 13 in recent years. The CO 13 Rio Blanco Hill project is currently under construction. Located north of Rifle, the project includes resurfacing and widening, two new wildlife underpasses and new chain up areas. Earlier this year, crews placed new chip seal on CO 13 north of Craig. In 2022, crews completed work on the CO 13 Fortification Creek North project near Craig. Safety improvements included reconstruction and widening, a new wildlife underpass, innovative wildlife detection system and wildlife fencing. In 2020 to 2021, CDOT completed concrete reconstruction, widening, drainage updates, wildlife fencing and other safety improvements as part of the CO 13 Reconstruction in Rio Blanco County project.
