Significant daytime delays expected on westbound I-270 this coming weekend, Nov. 4 and 5
Travel Advisory
Commerce City - As part of a project to resurface bridges along the I-270 corridor, there will be a single lane closure on westbound I-270 over 60th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard at the following times:
- 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4
- 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5
Significant delays ranging from up to 30 to 60 minutes are expected on westbound I-270 on Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you are planning to attend one of the big sporting events in Denver during the day or evening on Saturday, Nov. 4, CDOT urges you to plan for additional travel time.
The I-270 bridge resurfacing project started in September with all lanes opened by 1 p.m. on the weekends. More time is needed to wrap up work this weekend because the bridges over 60th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard are longer than the previous bridges, requiring more time to complete. More time is also needed for concrete to cure due to colder weather.
Motorists are advised to plan for delays. Freight with loads wider than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone.
The project involves resurfacing six of the eight bridges within a two-mile stretch of I-270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard in Adams County. The project is replacing the old asphalt with reinforced concrete, making for a more durable driving surface. The bridges need to be resurfaced now to prevent lengthy and unexpected lane closures in the future because of emergency pavement repairs. Crews completed resurfacing bridges on the eastbound side and are focused on wrapping up westbound work before the brunt of winter weather.
This project will greatly improve the driving surface and safety of these bridge decks until the bridge structures can be completely replaced in the future as part of the I-270 Corridor Improvements Project.
