Work set to restart on US Highway 50 following winter hiatus
Travel Advisory
Pueblo County — A Colorado Department of Transportation resurfacing and safety project is resuming on US 50 between Bonforte and Avondale boulevards after work was suspended for the winter. The project began in June 2022.
Work begins on Monday, May 1, with rotomilling on eastbound and westbound US 50, east of Troy Avenue. When complete, paving operations begin. Additional improvements include sign installation, new striping, and north slope paving, just east of the CO 46/96 junction.
The project is scheduled for completion in June 2023.
Prior to the winter shutdown, a majority of the project zone was milled and paved, and included micro-surfacing, which provides a protective seal coat on top of the asphalt to extend the life of the pavement. Other functionality improvements included bridge work, guardrail installation, and new ADA ramps.
Traffic Impacts
- Working times: daylight hours, Monday through Friday.
- Various lane and shoulder closures, with the speed limit reduced to 40 mph. Traffic fines doubled.
