Travel Advisory

April 5, 2023 - Northwestern Colorado - Final striping and grinding to be completed

Mesa County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor, United Companies, will commence finishing work on US Highway 6 & North Avenue beginning next week, weather permitting. The project was shut down in December due to winter climate conditions that were not conducive to completing quality work safely. Work will begin on Monday April 10. Like last year, work will take place at night. For the remainder of the project, work will start each week on Sundays at 7 p.m.

Project crews will complete profiling, grinding, minor corrective work, and permanent final striping. The remaining work is anticipated to be complete by the end of April 2023 or early May. The image above shows crews installing temporary striping before the winter shutdown in December.

Once complete, the project will improve the drivability for motorists on this busy thoroughfare in Mesa County. Project work includes access improvements with raised median curb replacement and installation, ADA ramp construction, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements. Improvements completed in 2022 include: full-width overlay paving of this four-mile stretch of highway, traffic signal conduit improvements, and drainage, signage and striping.

The project is part of CDOT’s 10-year plan. It is one of several CDOT roadway improvement projects along the US 6 corridor in Mesa County during the 2022-2023 construction season.
