Access improvements to be made on US 50 between Poncha Springs and Maysville

April 27, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - Work by contractor will enhance safety at local gravel pit entrance

Chaffee County — Beginning in May, ACA Products, Inc. will be completing road work on US Highway 50 at Mile Point 212, just east of Maysville. A new right-hand turn lane is being constructed at this location to accommodate sand and gravel trucks turning into the R.B. Pit. Construction will include shoulder work, pavement widening and lane reconfiguration.

The access improvement project is being funded by ACA Products, Inc., while overseen by CDOT traffic and safety staff. The work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2023.

Traffic Impacts

May through the end of June, motorists will encounter road work on US 50, east of Maysville. Traffic impacts will include:

  • Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Vehicles may be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, throughout the duration of the project
  • These lane closures, guided by flaggers, may have up to 15-minute delays
  • The speed limit will be reduced throughout the work zone as well

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
