CDOT to host open house for 2023 construction project

La Plata County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and Stolfus & Associates, Inc. will host an open house next week for a project that is set to be constructed in 2023 on US 160 between Durango and Bayfield. CDOT and Stolfus staff will be on hand to explain and describe the highway features to be constructed at the intersection of US 160 and CR 225 (mile point 94), just east of the Florida River.
Open House: US 160 & CR 225 Intersection Improvement Project
Date/Time: Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4-7 p.m.
Location: Pine River Senior Center, 111 W. South Street, Bayfield
The public is encouraged to attend the open house to learn more about how the project will address safety concerns at the existing intersection. Project features will improve mobility, enhance managed access, and accommodate future traffic volumes expected from land development in the area. The project will include:
- Construction of a rural roundabout
- Improvements to drainage
- Installation of lighting
- Installation of deer guards
- New signing and striping

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
