Traffic signal improvements underway on US 50 in Delta

Travel Advisory

May 18, 2022 - Northwestern Colorado - Improvements will take place at four locations

Delta County — The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun signal work on US Highway 50 in Delta from Mile Point 71.1 to MP 71.5. Sturgeon Electric Company from Denver is the contractor.

Signal improvements will take place at four locations in Delta on US 50: 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Street. Work will consist of new conduit, wiring, pedestrian push buttons, vehicle detection, replacement of controller cabinets and signal head back plates. Additional work will consist of new signs and thermoplastic pavement marking.

Traffic signals are a vital part of controlling traffic in a safe and efficient manner by providing regulated movement. Vehicle detection will reduce unnecessary delays and stops at the intersection while improving travel times and increasing the amount of traffic that an intersection can handle.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists should plan for single-lane closures in each direction and minor delays. The project is expected to last until September.
