CDOT conducting paving operations on US 24 beginning June 13

El Paso County — Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be conducting paving and patching operations on US 24 beginning Monday, June 13. Maintenance Operations will take place at two locations on US 24. The first location is east of Crystola, at mile point 289. Crews will pave and patch moving east for just over a mile to MP 290.39.
June 13 to June 15
- Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 miles per hour.
- Working hours on the project will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
June 16
- Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 miles per hour.
- Working hours on the project will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Work at this location, in both the eastbound and westbound lanes is anticipated to be complete on June 16, but is weather and equipment dependent. Motorists should expect some delays in the area.
Beginning on June 21, paving and patching work will move near Woodland Park. Crews will move to nighttime work and start operations at MP 285, moving east to the intersection of US 24 and CO 67. From there crews will move north on CO 67 to Evergreen Heights & County Road. Eastbound single lane closures will be in place from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. from June 21 through June 23.
Starting in the summer of 2023, CDOT plans to have a construction project that will resurface and add safety enhancements on US 24 from Chipita Park to Woodland Park.

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
