Median cable rail and guardrail installation on I-70 in Eagle County begins in August

Travel Advisory

July 26, 2022 - Northwestern Colorado - Work will take place in two locations on I-70 just west of Edwards and east of Vail

Eagle County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a median cable rail and guardrail installation project in August. Work will take place in two locations on I-70 just west of Edwards and east of Vail. R.L. Wadsworth has been contracted by CDOT for the project.

Crews will install median cable rail between Mile Points 182 and 183, and median guardrail between MP 159 and 160. Motorists should be prepared for reduced speeds and left-hand lane closures. Work is anticipated to be complete by the end of October.

Adding a new median barrier will enhance safety for the traveling public on a critical section of I-70. Crews will install guardrail and cable barrier where none are currently located. The cable will act as a buffer to prevent the most dangerous types of motor accidents, including preventing a vehicle from crossing the center median into the opposing lane of traffic.

Traffic Impacts

Overnight work hours range from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. There will be various lane closures and shoulder work.

The project team will stay in close contact with CDOT maintenance crews in the event of I-70 closures in Glenwood Canyon. This coordination will help the project team prepare for an increase in traffic during any closures.

As always, construction schedules may be impacted by weather and other unanticipated delays. Please be sure to go to https://subscription.cotrip.org for current information.
