The southbound I-25 on ramp at Exit 11 will be fully closed August 8 to 12
Travel Advisory
Las Animas County – The Colorado Department of Transportation will implement a full closure of the Exit 11 on-ramp to southbound Interstate 25 from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 12. The closure will be in place 24/7. During this closure, traffic will be detoured northbound on I-25 to Exit 13B Main Street in Trinidad to access southbound I-25. The ramp closure is necessary while crews connect the newly constructed elements at the southwest side of the Exit 11 interchange to the new on-ramp and County Road 69.1. After the full closure, the new west roundabout will open to traffic.
This work is part of the I-25 Exit 11 Interchange Improvement project that is currently underway. Other work includes paving the new bridge sidewalk and adding pedestrian fencing and safety features, finishing construction of the east roundabout, painting the retaining walls, building the ramp crossovers, and paving and performing concrete flatwork at the new west roundabout.
Traffic Impacts
The following impacts can be expected during the period of closure:
- The Exit 11 on ramp to southbound I-25 will be fully closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, August 8 to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 12
- The closure will be in place 24/7
- Detour signage and construction devices will be present at Exit 11 alerting vehicular and commercial vehicle traffic to the five-day closure and detour
- Traffic will be detoured to the northbound I-25 on ramp at Exit 11, adjacent to the Port of Entry
- Once on northbound I-25, signs will be in place directing traffic to take Exit 13B (Main Street) and follow the signs to enter I-25 southbound
This detour will add approximately 4.2 miles and 7 minutes to travel times. Variable message boards will be placed on mainline I-25 at both north and south approaches to Exit 11 alerting the public to the five-day ramp closure. In the event of inclement weather, the work and closures will be rescheduled. Exit 11 is located on I-25 at Mile Point 11, or 11 miles from the New Mexico/Colorado border. All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
