I-25 Exit 11 Southbound on ramp will be fully closed during daytime hours on Nov. 16

Travel Advisory

November 9, 2021 - Southeastern Colorado - The closure is necessary while crews lay drainage pipes as part of the interchange reconstruction project

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation will implement a full daytime closure of the Exit 11 on-ramp to southbound Interstate 25 on Nov. 16. The closure will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. During this closure, traffic will be detoured northbound on I-25 to Exit 13B Main Street in Trinidad to access southbound I-25. The ramp closure is necessary while crews lay drainage pipes for the new west side roundabout that is currently under construction.

This work is part of the second phase of the I-25 Exit 11 interchange improvement project that began in late July. The project is designed to improve infrastructure, upgrade facilities, add safety features, and improve access to Fishers Peak and area destinations. Work includes replacing a bridge, building ramp crossovers, constructing new roundabouts at the east and west sides of the interchange to improve traffic flow, adding pedestrian facilities, and improving access to the Port of Entry. Ramp Closure Traffic Impacts - Nov 16

The following impacts can be expected during the period of closure:

  • The Exit 11 on ramp to southbound I-25 will be fully closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
  • Detour signage will be in place routing drivers and commercial vehicles to the northbound I-25 on ramp at Exit 11, adjacent to the Port of Entry.
  • Once on northbound I-25, signs will be in place directing traffic to take Exit 13B (Main Street) and follow the signs to enter I-25 southbound.
  • This detour will add approximately 4.2 miles and 7 minutes to travel times.
  • Variable message boards will be placed on mainline I-25 at both north and south approaches to Exit 11 alerting the public to the short-term ramp closure.
  • Detour signage will also be in place at various locations at the Exit 11 interchange to alert vehicular and commercial vehicle traffic to the short-term closure and detour.
  • Please be advised that lane narrowing, onsite lane shifts, and speed limits are in place at the Exit 11 interchange during this extended period of construction. Caution is advised.

General Traffic Impacts – 24/7

Motorists can expect the following general impacts during Phase II work:

  • A right lane closure is currently in place in both directions of I-25 from Mile Point 10 to MP 12 which is one mile south and north of Exit 11.
  • These right lane closures on mainline I-25 will exist until further notice.
  • A 17-foot width restriction exists within the project limits on I-25 and at the on and off ramps at Exit 11.
  • The southbound I-25 off ramp at Exit 11 is under a temporary detour configuration with traffic routed onto Toupal Drive.
  • Access to the on ramp to southbound I-25 at Exit 11 is also under a temporary onsite detour configuration via County Road 69.1.
  • The northbound I-25 on and off ramps are also under temporary onsite detour configuration onto the frontage roads. Traffic is being shifted to accommodate ramp, roundabout, and other construction.
  • Guests exiting the Rodeway Inn are being routed onto CR 69.5 (unmarked road just south of the hotel entrance) behind the hotel, then back to the Santa Fe Trail to a new four way stop intersection. From there, signage will show the routes to the north/south I-25 ramps.
  • Construction devices and signage are in place to safely direct motorists through the lane closures and detour configurations.
  • 12-foot lanes continue to exist in both directions of County Road 69.1 and Toupal Drive.
  • All roadways will remain open through the duration of the project.
  • Access to businesses and the Port of Entry is fully maintained.
  • Lane closures and other traffic notices are posted weekly on COTrip.org.
