Reconstruction of the I-25 Bridge over Big Thompson River will require overnight Northbound I-25 full closure on Feb. 16

Travel Advisory

February 11, 2020 - Northeastern Colorado

LOVELAND – The I-25 North Express Lanes Project team will close northbound I-25 between Colorado Highway 402 and US 34 to place girders on the southbound I-25 bridge over the Big Thompson River from 10 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, until 5 a.m., Monday, Feb. 17.

Detour for the closure is:

Northbound traffic will exit I-25 at CO 402, head east to County Road 13, proceed north on County Road 13 to US 34 and west on US 34 to the northbound I-25 on-ramp.

CDOT’s commitment to highway safety, through their Whole System Whole Safety initiative, deems this closure necessary to protect motorists from potential danger posed by overhead work and equipment staged on the roadway as they travel along I-25.

Project Information

The I-25 North Express Lanes: Johnstown to Fort Collins Project will increase capacity by adding an Express Lane in both directions, constructing inside and outside shoulders, and replacing aging bridges. The project will also improve multimodal access to regional transit to promote mode shift, improve bus service performance by adding new bus slip ramps from I-25 to the new Park-n-Ride at Kendall Parkway, and improve interchanges at CO 402, Prospect Road and US 34.

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.

WHOLE SYSTEM. WHOLE SAFETY.

To heighten safety awareness, CDOT recently announced its Whole System — Whole Safety initiative. This project takes a systematic statewide approach to safety combining the benefits of CDOT’s programs that address driving behaviors, our built environment and the organization's operations. The goal is to improve the safety of Colorado’s transportation network by reducing the rate and severity of crashes and improving the safety of all transportation modes. The program has one simple mission—to get everyone home safely.
